Gridlife Grand Touring (GLGT) competitor Chris DeLucia had quite a scare at Midwest Fest last weekend. In GLGT Race 3 on Saturday, his car burst into enormous flames while exiting Turn 10b at Gingerman Raceway.

The link should be timestamped to 08:30:44, if not, fast-forward to that point.

Chris unsurprisingly wasted no time getting out of the car. As you can see, he was out in less than 10 seconds, and before the car had even come to a stop.

Reportedly, a fuel line disconnected from the rail, and the heat was so intense he could not keep his feet on the pedals to stop the car.

Thankfully, Chris is okay, with only minor burns on his legs.

It's not enough to own safety gear. It must be worn every time you drive your highly modified track car. And not only that, but you must regularly practice fast, blind exits from the car, with all your gear on!

It is disorienting to escape a cabin filled with smoke, especially when you are slowed down by gloves, a helmet, a radio cable, Cool Shirt lines, seatbelts, a window net, and a roll cage to navigate.

Let this be another reminder that race car fires can happen to anyone!
